On line readingsLove that we can get to 'Today's bible reading' on line by clicking at the top of this page - really helpful. Elsa Burnt OfferingsThe end of Exodus and the start of Leviticus describe different sorts of offerings - burnt offerings, grain offerings, wave offerings etc. I understand the principle that blood is required to pay the price of sin - but what is the significance of all the different types of offerings? Why so many variations and what was the difference? MRG LeviticusWe are coming up to Leviticus and Numbers, which are often regarded as a hard read! This is mainly becaue they are - at least for most people I know. For those who were at Ashburnum last year or if you can listen to Ray Evans' 1st talk, it might help to realise that the spiritual geography of Israel that he talked about, very powerfully, comes right from here. The focus on the separation from God caused by death and sin comes from these books. As I read these books, I try to ask myself what this knowledge, that was ingrained into Jesus' listeners woud have meant to the understanding of what He said. For example in Leviticus 2 it says "You shall season all your grain offerings with salt. You shall not let the salt of the covenant with your God be missing from your grain offering; with all your offerings you shall offer salt". How would this resonate with someone being told to be the salt of the earth? I hope this helps. Do feel free to share any insights you have.
